Of all the Adriatic and Mediterannean cities, Rijeka is located deepest within the European mainland. It is a town of rich and turbulent history, a town which has always attracted people seeking new business opportunities, as well as those seeking rest and a good time. The cosmopolitan character of this Mediterannean town of Middle-European architecture is visible with every step you take. Rijeka is a town of strong industry and traffic, particularly sea-port traffic, but also a town of beautiful palaces and splendid details.

This is the view of the center of town of Rijeka, Croatia and in the direction of it's northern suburbs. Tourist town Opatija is 15 km to the north-west. Passenger Harbor is in the center of the city and the cargo terminal is on the left.

After the buildings at the top of the image, container harbor is visible, where US Army helicopters were assembled during the operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, some, respectively, 400 and 1000 km to the south-east.
